Hot Damn Jamz 26: Endless Summer Edition
Summer is winding down here at HDJ HQ and we’re feeling kind of nostalgic. In a couple weeks beach attire will no longer be allowed, nobody will be showing up to work with their surfboard lashed to the roof of their woody, the snack machine will no longer be dispensing piña coladas for a dollar, and worst of all the Hot Damn Jamz will be folding up shop and heading down to Florida for the season. Aw, just foolin’ about that last one. We’ll never pack it in, fold it up or mail it in. Our jamz are endless and in our hearts it’s always summer! Along with the cutie pie indie rockers the Darlings (as pictured over there to the left), we’ve got a whole bunch or real good stuff for you again this week….
Your Twenties
If the brainy, hooky sound of Field Music gives you a thrill, you should check out the similarly brainy and hooky sound of this band.
Gloves
Best known for glittery remixes of fellow Aussie dance rockers Cut Copy and Van She, Gloves has a couple new tracks out on a 12? that should come packaged with a disco ball.
Babies
These guys sound exactly how you would expect a Vivian Girls/Woods collabo to sound — but better somehow….
Darlings
Good solid rock & roll on a shoestring budget will always sound good if done correctly (with hooks and humor); that’s just how NYC band Darlings operates on their new album Yeah I Know.
Frankel
Lighter-than-air singer-songwriter pop that nods to Harry Nilsson and Grandaddy at the same time.
Bloody Woods
This Chinese neo-folk outfit sounds like they’re playing deep within an ancient, magical forest.
The G
The men and woman of the G don’t just revive the ’90s indie-rock sound on songs like “Trouble in Heat,” they resuscitate it.
Acidkids
Acidkids’ “electro-bastard-pop-mix” is thick, fast and furious — just the way we like it.
Let’s take a moment to remember 5ive Style, these two bands certainly do! They’ve also had many music lessons it seems….
Meadow Blaster
Afternoon Brother
